An increasing favourite golf break holiday destination amongst travelling golfers is England, which has its share of prime and vintage golf courses, ten of them ranked amongst the British Isles top 25. While Scotland and Ireland are reputed for their links, England’s golfing reputation is based on its heathland and parkland layouts, not withstanding its great links courses.

The highest concentration of clubs is found around the major metropolis of Manchester, Birmingham and London, all have a large collection of superb parkland and heathland courses, while England’s 7,500 miles of coastline is dotted by a string of fine links courses. If city clubs and coastal links mainly tend to be private or public clubs, many of England’s inland courses are often part of a resort developed around an old mansion or hotels such as the Belfry, Forest of Arden, St. Pierre and Slaley Hall.
